‘A discussion on racism and the renaming of a park’ is happening on Saturday February 26, 2022 from 10am-12:30 p.m. and is a featured event part of the Chinatown Engagement Days. This virtual event includes a presentation, panel discussion and Q&A that will share about the lived experiences and history of Chinatown including the impact of Anti-Chinese racism.
馬鳳齡 Fung Ling Feimo and Cynthia Klassen from Calgary Heritage will be presenting and the panel discussion will be moderated by Dr. Gina Ko, registered Psychologist and host of Against the Tides of Racism podcast. Panelists for the event are:
Teresa Woo-Paw, former MLA and Chair of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation, ACCT Foundation, Asian Heritage Foundation
Malcom Chow, current Chairman of the Board for the Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre and the Calgary Chinatown Seniors Housing Society
Dr. Shibao Guo, professor at the Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary specializing in citizenship and immigration, ethnic and race relations, multicultural and anti-racism education, and comparative and international education
Tony Wong, former director for the Calgary Chinese Public School, the United Calgary Chinese Association, the Calgary Senior Housing Society, the Calgary Photographic Art Society, and is current president of the Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre Association
Alice Lam, co-founder of Volly, the Calgary Community Fridge, the Good Neighbour Community Market and is an avid volunteer in Chinatown including hosting historic Chinatown tours in Calgary
