Table Topics is back! And this time it’s *drumroll* IN PERSON!! We couldn’t be more excited to bring Table Topics to Calgary, AB! The theme for our next Table Topics is Apathy is Motivation: Building a Movement for a Better Democracy.
Young Canadians and marginalized folks have been excluded from what should be a collective decision-making process. We thought it was time to do something about that... Come brunch and chat with us about how we can see this change come to life!
Do you feel like information about how our governments work is inaccessible? Do you ever feel powerless when it comes to engaging with our democratic system? Then join us on August 21st for Table Topics! We’ll get together IN PERSON (can you tell we’re excited about an in person event?) and discuss how to challenge this sense of powerlessness. We’ll share our stories and talk about how through our shared experiences we can create a better roadmap for a more inclusive future.
How it works
First, you’ll hear from an incredible panel of speakers who have been active champions of democracy in Calgary. Then you’ll enjoy a catered brunch and discuss what you heard from the panelists in small groups.
Here are the panelists we'll hear from at brunch:
City Councillor Courtney Walcott –– a community advocate, builder, and organizer.
Tera Leigh Cardinal –– Vice president of External affairs at the Student association of Mount Royal university and Chair of the National Indigenous Advisory Committee at the Canadian alliance of Student associations.
Nicole Schmidt –– President, University of Calgary Students' Union.
This event is designed for Canadians 30 and under. If you're over 30, you can sign up, but priority will go to younger folks. This event is free to attend, but all attendees must register by August 14, 2022.

The Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, and the Métis Nation are the custodians of the unceded lands of Moh’kinsstis/Calgary. We recognize that an honest discussion about democracy on stolen land is one that requires care, personal reflection, and profound humility. We will aim to honour this reality to the best of our ability during these discussions.
